  • Established by Royal Charter in 1917, the Commonwealth War Graves Commission pays tribute to the 1,700,000 men and women of the Commonwealth forces who died in the two world wars. It is a non-profit-making organization that was founded by Sir Fabian Ware.

  • An excellent complement to the whole experience of coming to Flanders and trying to conceive the experiences of the soldiers.

    On the 11th December, 1915, in the centre of this lively town, Chaplain Philip Clayton opened a "soldiers’ house". The large home of the Coevoet family was transformed into "Every Man’s Club", where all soldiers were welcome, regardless of rank.

  • For a long time, there was not much information about the Crypt and the ruins of the first Yser tower. The Museum on the Yser is now changing that, explaining both the political background and symbolism in an audio track and text. In addition, you can even explore the Crypt from a bird’s eye perspective.

  • The Last Post, the traditional final salute to the fallen, is played by the buglers of the Last Post Association in honour of the memory of the soldiers of the former British Empire and its allies, who died in the Ypres Salient during the First World War (1914-1918). It is the intention of the Last Post Association to maintain this daily act of homage in perpetuity.
